| A STORY |
| Dorene, a divorced mother of one grown daughter, had never owned her own home. She had a good job managing a successful restaurant, but had never really imagined that she could purchase a home of her own. She had good credit and not a lot of debt, but knew nothing about the real estate process. The urge to own a home had become very powerful, but she had no idea where to start. Luckily, she answered a small ad in the classifieds about a house that said "easy to get into". The listing agent, Kim, showed her the property, but Dorene wasn't really sure. Kim asked if Dorene had an agent, which of course she didn't. Dorene didn't even know that she COULD have an agent! They agreed to work together and Kim helped Dorene find a mortgage broker who qualified her for a loan. They looked at quite a few homes, and even made an offer on one, but Dorene decided against that purchase. Then one afternoon they had a little time before an appointment to view a house, and Kim had information with her about another property in the same area. The tenant was accommodating and invited them in to look. Dorene walked in the living room and her heart began to pound. By the time they reached the back yard, even before they went upstairs, she was hooked. They wrote an offer immediately, which Kim presented to the sellers the next evening, along with two other realtors who were making offers for their clients as well. The seller accepted Dorene's offer and with the help of Kim and her mortgage broker, Dorene moved into her new home about 6 weeks later. |
| A CONFESSION |
| The above story is true and happened in 1995. However, Dorene's first name is Stella. She is me! I can't overstate the profound difference that experience made in my life. A few years later, I decided to become a realtor myself because of the wonderful experience I had with Kim. I have been in the business since 1999 and at Windermere since 2002. It has been my great pleasure to help my friends and the folks I have met along the way realize their goals of home ownership. I helped Joe find his first home after two years of trying to get to Portland. I helped another young couple buy their first home, a sweet 2 bedroom Victorian and then the 3 bedroom, 2 bath home needed to welcome their first little girl. I helped my old friends come home to Portland from upstate New York, and I helped a clients mother find a wonderful place to live here in Portland so she could help care for her newest grandchild. Kim has changed careers and I am now her realtor! |
